In 2008, Walt Disney Pictures was developing a feature film called Tomorrowland with screenwriters Jon Lucas and Scott Moore to star Dwayne Johnson. The film was supposedly not based on the actual Tomorrowland attractions but an original story which borrowed the title.

In 2013, Walt Disney Pictures announced that a secret project (originally titled as 1952) led by director Brad Bird and screenwriter Damon Lindelof was re-titled Tomorrowland. It is unknown if Bird and Lindelof are working off of Lucas and Moore’s previous drafts or if it is an original idea based on the Tomorrowland attractions.The film is scheduled for release on December 19, 2014

Sadly, Walt Disney never lived to dine at Club 33. It was completed just a few months after his death. Around the time of Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary, the Club had a painting commissioned of Walt dining at the restaurant. The painting now hangs in the restaurant, and features Walt at a window table, with the Mark Twain Riverboat outside, sipping a cup of coffee as he reads the paper. It is truly a moving piece of art.

This is why Pixar is awesome: Include a famous dress from a famous painting of a famous actress playing Macbeth in your Scottish fantasy animation. Brave!

a new Star Wars film every year starting in 2015 with Episode 7!!! from Director JJ Abrams! This is the way it will work, the new trilogy will have films every two years with a stand alone film in between.

This was announced by Disney Studio Head Alan Horn at Cinemacon today! Now 2015 is shaping up to be the year that is ruled by the Mouse! Episode 7 will be joined in theaters by Pirates 5, Finding Dory, Pixar’s Inside and Out, and The Avengers 2! This will be a massive year in the box office for Disney! Are you excited? I know I am!

BURBANK, Calif. (April 2, 2013) – When Dory said “just keep swimming” in 2003’s Oscar®-winning film “Finding Nemo,” she could not have imagined what was in store for her (not that she could remember). Ellen DeGeneres, voice of the friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish, revealed details today about Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory”—an all-new big-screen adventure diving into theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ‘Toy Story 16.’ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

Director and Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton takes audiences back to the extraordinary underwater world created in the original film. “There is no Dory without Ellen,” said Stanton. “She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar. One thing we couldn’t stop thinking about was why she was all alone in the ocean on the day she met Marlin. In ‘Finding Dory,’ she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way.”

According to Stanton, “Finding Dory” takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life. 

“Finding Nemo” won the 2003 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature; the film was nominated for three additional Oscars® (Best Writing, Original Screenplay; Best Music, Original Score; Best Sound Editing). It was also nominated for a Golden Globe® Award for Best Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical. In 2008, the American Film Institute named “Finding Nemo” among the top 10 greatest animated films ever made. At the time of its release, “Finding Nemo” was the highest grossing G-rated movie of all time. It’s currently the fourth highest grossing animated film worldwide. The film has more than 16 million Likes on Facebook, and Dory—with more than 24 million—is the most Liked individual character from a Disney or Disney•Pixar film. 

DeGeneres’ distinctive comic voice has resonated with audiences from her first stand-up comedy appearances through her work today on television, in film and in the literary world. News of the series was announced moments ago by Disney Channels Worldwide President and Chief Creative Officer Gary Marsh, “By bringing Mickey’s comedic adventures to life with vitality, humor, inventiveness and charm, the entire Disney Television Animation team of artists, animators and directors have worked to capture the essence of what Walt Disney himself created 85 years ago.”

Mickey is Disney’s No. 1 star and the world’s leading character franchise. Since his creation in 1928, he has continued to be a timeless favorite. While the new cartoon shorts are fresh and contemporary, they are also reminiscent of the art direction and storytelling of Walt and his animators in the 1920s and 1930s.

Each cartoon finds Mickey in a different setting including Santa Monica, New York, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Venice and the Alps, facing a silly situation, a quick complication and an escalation of physical and visual gags. The stories also feature heartfelt and heroic moments as Mickey experiences life with Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto.

The executive producer and director for this Walt Disney Television Animation project is Emmy Award-winning artist and director Paul Rudish. The shorts, geared towards kids and families, also include a few surprises from the production team for Disney fans of all ages. The team has included the occasional homage to other icons from the storied Disney heritage.
